Favourite Pieces and Inspirations
I could say a lot about why these pieces inspire me, but it’s nothing I haven’t already said or am going to cover more thoroughly in other places. These are some of the champion splash arts that inspire me and a short paragraph on why. It’s personal, not technical, but I hope it conveys the emotions still.
Victorious Sejuani
I love the confidence this art portrays. The strength and power. I love her design, almost viking. I love the colour used and the patterns on the throne. I like that her boar has a huge sense of scale, I can tell how large it is and how intimidating it would be. It inspires me to create something that makes you feel that way without any knowledge of art. Something you can admire as an entire piece while still noticing details.
Spellthief Lux
This is one of the biggest inspirations for my character. The setting, and the alchemical bottles on her belt. I’d love to incorporate something like that into my character. I like the softness of her features, and the mystery of the story of the image. What is she doing there? What is the book in the background? It adds so many questions. I’d like to add something that makes the person looking at my final piece ask questions too!
Oceansong Seraphine Prestige Edition
The lighting in this piece is just beautiful. I love how ethereal it is. I love the shine and details on her outfit and I love the simple background that still says so much. The colours work beautifully together, and the light focusing on her face guides your eyes upward toward the surface of the water. I’d like to make sure to use solid lighting in my final piece.
The detail when you look close is something I’d really love to try and master for my final piece too, it’s incredible to look at.
Spirit Blossom Syndra
This is probably my favourite piece of art in any game. As an expression of the character, it’s pretty good, but as an art piece it’s brilliant. The movement and motion, the sense of freedom in her soft expression, the way the fabric around her swirls into petals to match the trees behind her. The small patterns in the sleeves and the way the gold shines on her clothing. The way your eye is guided from the bottom almost from dark to light to follow her movement, all in a still image. It’s just a beautiful art piece. The only thing I’d hope to take from this to my project is to create something that makes me feel proud enough to share with a world that already has this in it.
Conclusion
There’s an incredible amount to learn from every single one of these, and my hope is that I can look at them even closer as my final piece develops, to try and get everything out of them I can. I’m truly glad they exist to inspire artists to improve themselves.
Part of the reason I want to do this project is because of how they make me feel, I’ll never be great at putting my thoughts into words but when I look at some of these pieces I feel emotional at how beautiful they are, and that they were made by a person. I think I put too much pressure on myself to perform to that standard too, so the most important thing I learned looking at these is that real art needs passion, the skill comes with time.
Splash art works well because of the artistic beauty of it combined with peoples love for the concept behind the characters. A well fleshed out character with an incredible art work displaying it will promote and sell better than one without. This style of artwork is invaluable to the game and the industry.
